spooky

In this work, I drew two pumpkins and the skull of a cat. My goal was to carve out the light and create dramatic shadows. I accomplished this by using an eraser to bring the light out of the grays I put down in the beginning of this drawing, chalk to amplify the light, and compressed charcoal to create deep shadows. What surprised me about this process was the difficulty of making the highlights bright enough to stand out in the composition. The light was the biggest challenge I had to face in this drawing. I think my drawing really works in the sense that my composition is emerging from the darkness. I feel best about the way the pumpkin to the left in my drawing is coming out of the shadows. I will definitely bring what I learned about carving out light into my future artwork. I really loved the blending and shadows in Lauren's drawing. If I had a do-over, I would probably attempt to give the skull more depth, but, overall, I am very happy with my drawing.

.jpg Challenge Número Cuatro

In this assignment, we were challenged to post pictures of things we're obsessed with.

I'm obsessed with my god, Ginger.
She is so sweet and loving and aH i just love her.

WOW THAT COLOR YES. Seriously though I love flowers and
just plants in general they're great.

I love drawing/doodling/art. It's so relaxing. My new thing
recently has been using ballpoint pens as my medium (10/10
a great time)
I'm obsessed with the night sky. I really don't know why, but I
love the silhouettes of the trees and when the stars are out it's
so pretty.
Music has to be my #1 obsession ((especially this album)).
More music but I have a love for vinyls whoops they're just so
pretty.

I always want to go to shows. I love the energy and just the
chance to see my favourite bands live. (I try to go to every
Mayday Parade show with my sister but their upcoming show
is already sold out and I'm a little salty but it's okay).

Here's another one of Mayday Parade because
I'm actually obsessed and listen to them everyday
oops.

This one's a little weird but it's okay we're all friends here. I
really like all that spooky stuff like skulls and pendulums (and crystals
they aren't spooky they're just pretty and used for protection
and all that jazz).
and here's one of Cody Carson because
Set It Off's set was a good time.

Paper Word Drawing In the Style of Ed Ruscha

My goals for this piece was to experiment with light and shadow to create a realistic drawing of a word constructed out of paper. I accomplished this by using intense shadow to emphasize the power of light and perspective in the composure of the piece. My drawing is about how the use of dramatic shadows can greatly transform the artwork. The most difficult challenge I had to face was blending my shading (it's never been my strong suit). In order to meet this challenge, I started by laying down my light and grays first and then going darker later in the process. I began to see more shadow and how to form the letters by looking at the sculpture from different angles. My drawing works in the sense that I achieved my goal of emphasizing my letters with dramatic shadows. Through this project, I learned to take my time and really look at the placement of the shadows. Lauren used harsh shadows to create the realism in her art. If I had a do-over, I would try to create a consistent texture in my shading. I feel best about the U and T in my artwork.

.jpg Challenge Número Tres

"What does family mean to me?"

This is my mother. She's truly the most wonderful person I know and is my best friend. When I took this, she asked me what I wanted her to do and I told her "pretend like I was a riot and laugh" and she lost it so I mean obviously, I'm hilarious. She accepts me for me and although she doesn't always agree with me, she taught me to fight for what I believe in and work to achieve my dreams and she has always supported me every step of the way.

This is Jessica. She is like the sweetest person in the entire world and has a great sense of humor. She's helped me through so much and holds (at the moment) an eleven day snapchat streak with me (goalsssss). Seriously though she accepted my weirdness at day one when I dm'ed her on instagram and awkwardly brought up the weather (throwback) and then we bonded over the idea of putting every bag of popcorn in the cafeteria in the microwave at once, setting the time to like twenty minutes, then leaving and we've been really close ever since.

Can we start off by acknowledging how cute this picture is? Okay, cool. This is Annie. She's an amazing and hilarious human being. She spontaneously spams me with pictures and answers my unexpected phone calls (like right after I met Mayday Parade and was in a crowd of people crying my eyes out). We sob over emo bands together and send "roses are red" jokes in groupchats that probably confuse everyone else but it's okay.

This is Ciana. She has one of the best laughs ever, makes amazing jokes, and is a great person in general. She has helped me through a lot and obsesses over Pierce the Veil with me. We are literal meme trash and thoroughly confuse my mom on a daily basis but it's a chill time. We send a lot of videos of our dogs to each other and make a lot of "dat boi" jokes and are also very very shady when needed.

This is Lauren//LAuren (and there's Annie in the background what's up). She always brings me really nice food and I cry and will text me links to cute videos/shows me great ones like the "Hurricane Tortilla" video. We had quality conversations in her pantry and have times where we'll rant but stop halfway through and just make hand gestures because we understand each other. One time me, her, and jessica got locked out of her house and were stranded on her balcony with a box of cookies in the cold, but don't worry we were rescued eventually.

This is my sister, Dawn (and her dog Grace). Dawn has supported me through so much and has fought people for me (she's amazing). I'm like a mini version of her. We go to concerts together, defy my parents together, and bond over art and Star Wars. She is always there for me, no matter where I am, what she's doing, or what time it is.

(This picture is from two months ago, but bear with me he lives like 2,000 miles away). This is Alex, my very long distance best friend of over two years. I saw him in person again (after two years, so crazy) in July. We did some reckless things, but hey we're still alive and well. He is always there for me and works to keep me in a positive state of mind and encourages me to step out of my comfort zone a bit so he's a pretty chill person. He spontaneously sings all of the time, doesn't let me put myself in danger, and doesn't get mad when I almost push him out of bed in the morning and text him about random things that are on my mind in the middle of the night.

So this is my dog, Ginger, and I know it's been all people up to this point but I just loVE MY DOG SO MUCH I MEAN LOOK SHE'S SMILING IN THIS PICTURE (she smiles all of the time and I cry every time I'm just an emo mess). She makes me smile and wakes me up way too early in the morning with cuddles and really gross kisses (but she means well). My family thinks she's annoying because she's thirsty for attention, but she just has so much love to share so like I don't think it's a bad thing.

In conclusion, "family" to me is those who lift you up. All of these people have played a significant role in my life and journey to a better state of mind and I don't know what I would do without them ((love you guys)). Peace out
